There is a further, last-minute change of venue for the new season: the Tiviot will now play home games in the upstairs room at The Blossoms, |

which is at the junction of the A6 and Bramhall Lane. |

New season starts Thursday 17 October |
|

The 2024-25 season will start on Thursday 17 October, with the first round of matches in the new qualifying stage of the knockout competitions. |
|
Questions will be set jointly by Smart Alex and the Griffin. |
|
The following week sees the first league matches of the season, with questions by the Alexandra. All league fixtures are here. |
|
There have been a number of venue (and team name) changes for this season; will all teams please familiarise themselves with these via the |
|
previous communication and the relevant team details pages below. |
|
The season’s question-setting rota is here. We’re still looking for volunteer setters for several dates throughout the season - please get in |
|
touch if you'd like to help. Question setters are reminded that, following the closure of the Railway, each week’s ‘spare’ question paper should |
|
be left at the Alexandra (which will host a match almost every week, so you will most likely be going there anyway when delivering questions). |

Pre-season friendly |

The traditional curtain-raiser to the new season, a friendly quiz between representative teams from the Withington and Stockport leagues, took |
|
place last night. The Stockport team, comprising players from Smart Alex, Railway and Alexandra, made it three-in-a-row, with a 62-55 victory. |
|

2024-2025 season |

This is a preliminary update following last night’s AGM/Registration Meeting; more information and reminders will be published here next week. |
|
At the meeting Andrea Clarkson (Smart Alex) and Charlotte Bulmer (Wandering Star) were appointed to the vacant positions of League Chair |
|
and League Treasurer respectively. |
|
Sadly the Fingerpost are unable to take part this season, leaving us with nine teams and resulting in some changes to the calendar and format |
|
of matches. The knockout will use a group qualifying stage (three groups of three), followed by ‘normal’ semi-finals and finals for Cup and |
|
Plate. Full details and fixtures will be published next week. The current Cup trophy is to be re-named in memory of our much missed friend |
|
and League Chairman, Dave Badley. The opening fixtures will now be played on Thursday 17 October - a week later than originally planned - |
|
and will be the first of the knockout qualifying group matches, with questions set jointly by the Griffin and Smart Alex. The first league games |
|
of the season will be on Thursday 24 October. A provisional season calendar with the fixture schedule and question-setting duties is here. |

The team formerly known as ‘Sun & Castle’ is now called the ‘Swan With Two Necks’, following their move to the pub of that name on |
|
Princess Street in Stockport. They will be ground-sharing at the new venue with the team formerly known as ‘The Railway’, who will now |
|
be called the ‘Swan and Railway’. |
|

The team formerly known as ‘Horse & Farrier’ are now known as ‘The Griffin’ following their move to the pub of the same name in Heald |
|
Green. |
